Quaker Quest

Quaker Quest

WHAT IS A QUAKER QUEST?

An affirmation that Quakers have 'a spiritual path for today that is simple, contemporary and radical'.

Quakers speaking of their personal faith experience; personal spiritual journeys speak more powerfully than Quaker facts.

A chance for enquirers to explore issues for themselves with time given to them to do so.

A varied programme that is explored in a lively way, with short presentations from three Friends and in small group discussions.

Session topics that are chosen for their relevance to the seeker; Quaker jargon, history and structures are avoided or very briefly explained.

Open public meetings which are held weekly, in one venue, in a repeated cycle of sessions. Repetition and continuity are important for the Quester to find his or her way in.

An introduced half-hour Meeting for Worship that is an essential part of each session.

An introduction to Quaker Faith and Practice and Advices and Queries, which are used in each session.

A core team which meets for planning sessions, and attends all public sessions in order to give continuity, reflection and evaluation.

A way of outreach that encourages Friends to clarify and speak of their faith experience: a radical new way of inreach.

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • It is for anyone who wants to discover more about Quakers.
  • It is for those who have never been to a Quaker meeting;
  • it is for those who have been to a few Quaker meetings;
  • it is for those who have been to many Quaker meetings.
  • You do not have to live in Nottingham and we welcome people from elsewhere.

We shall not pressure those who come, to become Quakers. Quakers don't do that. Our style is to work through quiet processes for a world where peaceful means bring about just settlements. You don't have to be a Quaker to do that, but that is what Quakers do.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
